Canadian Department of Peace Initiative - Public Presentation
A public presentation on the Canadian Department of Peace Initiative will be given by MYS Director, Theresa Dunn, at the Whitehorse Public Library on November 12, 2009 at 7:00 PM. In keeping with Mediation Yukon being a 'Society to Promote Peacemaking', all MYS members and the public at large are encouraged to attend. March, 2009 - Strategic Planning Exercise
Brainstorming Session – MYS – What’s it all about?
On March 17th members of the MYS Board met at the Whitehorse Public Library to engage in the first Strategic Planning Session. Led by the wonderful and talented Cindy-Anne Belanger, the group jumped right into a 'brainstorming' exercise. The purpose of this was to generate thoughts and ideas around a number of preliminary questions, such as "What does mediation mean to you?", and "How do we best develop a framework for growth and organizational development?", and "What should our guiding values and principles be in meeting our goals?"
Heady questions, indeed. But the group tackled these questions with verve and enthusiasm. Here's what one participant said about the event:
"I can in all honesty, say that was the best 'team work' experience I've ever had."
Another participant said:
"This was an interesting approach to developing MYS vision and direction. Everyone has such great skills."
High praise! To top things off, Cindy-Ann produced a great document - with pictures - capturing not only the essence of what was shared, but also the sense of excitement and enthusiasm. The document also suggests the next steps to moving the process forward.

February, 2009 - New board meets
Our new Board dealt with an ambitious agenda on February 3, 2009, designed to reinvigorate Mediation Yukon over the next year. Step one is for the Board members to engage in a Strategic Planning exercise. On Thursday, March 12th there will be a half-day workshop for this purpose.
The Board also set a schedule of Board Meetings for 2009 - the second Tuesday of each month, except for the months of July and August.
This web site will be expanded to include a Members' Page (presently under construction) with the following information and links:
- A calendar of upcoming events
- Board Members, with bios and photos
- Minutes of meetings
- Communiques for our members
- Membership form
- A roster of teachers and coaches
- A 'Coaches Corner'
The Board also made a decision to contact all past members and encourage them to pay their dues in order to remain a member in good standing. Under our agreement with Yukon College to deliver training for the JIBC Courses, an insurance policy has now been finalized and is in effect for trainers and coaches. To be covered by this policy, trainers and coaches, must be members in good standing of Mediation Yukon.
